Morocco’s national railway operator, ONCF, is on track to achieve a record-breaking revenue of 5 billion dirhams in 2025, driven by continued growth in passenger traffic and strong performance in freight and phosphate transport.
During a board meeting held Thursday in Rabat, chaired by Minister of Transport and Logistics Abdessamad Kayouh, ONCF shared optimistic forecasts for the year ahead. The company expects to carry 56 million passengers in 2025, with high-speed Al Boraq services alone projected to generate 2.9 billion dirhams in revenue from 5.6 million travelers.
Freight operations are also on a steady upward trajectory. ONCF plans to transport nearly 13.9 million tonnes of phosphate, bringing in 1.2 billion dirhams. Traditional freight services are expected to move 9 million tonnes of goods, adding another 710 million dirhams to the company’s revenue.
ONCF’s General Director, Mohamed Rabie Khlie, emphasized that the budget for 2026 has been developed in alignment with the strategic vision of King Mohammed VI, with a focus on boosting investment and supporting Morocco’s broader economic growth.
Looking ahead to 2026, ONCF anticipates continued momentum. Passenger numbers are forecast to rise by 4% to 58.5 million, while total freight—including phosphate and other goods—is expected to reach 24 million tonnes. Of that, 14.5 million tonnes will come from phosphate transport, and 9.5 million from general freight. This should translate to revenue of 5.4 billion dirhams, representing a 7% increase over 2025.
On the investment front, ONCF is expected to close 2025 with over 18 billion dirhams allocated to infrastructure and development. In 2026, this figure could climb to 23 billion as the operator accelerates a new phase of its expansion strategy.
The railway group is also advancing its ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) strategy, aiming to strengthen its sustainable performance and deepen its positive social impact.
During the meeting, Minister Kayouh praised the progress made in Morocco’s rail sector, attributing its transformation to the strategic leadership of King Mohammed VI. He highlighted that the modernization of the railway network is part of a long-term vision that blends efficiency, sustainability, and economic value for the entire country.
The minister also spotlighted the landmark investment program launched on April 24, 2025, under the King’s leadership. With a total budget of 96 billion dirhams, it represents the most ambitious investment plan in the history of Morocco’s railway system. The program includes extending the high-speed line to Marrakech, acquiring new trains, building next-generation stations, expanding regional connections, and upgrading existing infrastructure.
The meeting concluded with board members applauding the ONCF teams for their commitment and contributions to transforming the country’s railways into a key driver of sustainable mobility and regional development.
