Oracle has officially opened a new research and development center in Casablanca, focused on cloud computing and artificial intelligence. The facility will mobilize a team of 1,000 Moroccan engineers tasked with creating innovative tech solutions for global markets.
The announcement was made on June 17 during a formal ceremony attended by Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch and the Minister of Digital Transition, Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni. Spanning seven floors, the new center combines high-end technology infrastructure with a thoughtfully designed work environment that includes collaborative spaces, a cafeteria, an auditorium, fitness facilities, and prayer rooms.
Oracle plans to turn this site into a leading hub for innovation. Teams at the center will leverage Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) alongside cutting-edge AI and machine learning technologies. The goal is to tackle today’s most pressing tech challenges while anticipating the evolving needs of businesses worldwide.
This initiative stems from a partnership with Morocco’s Ministry of Digital Transition and reflects Oracle’s long-term investment in local talent. The company has built strong ties with engineering schools across the country and is actively hiring from this pool. Last year, nearly all eligible interns were offered full-time positions—an indicator of Oracle’s commitment to nurturing the local tech ecosystem.
According to Craig Stephen, Oracle’s Executive Vice President, the Casablanca center will serve as a springboard for exporting innovation from Morocco to Africa, the Middle East, and beyond. The company’s decision to invest in the country was driven by both the high caliber of local engineers and Morocco’s strategically valuable location.
But Oracle isn’t stopping there. The tech giant is preparing to launch two cloud regions in Casablanca and Settat. These new deployments will allow businesses to store and manage their data on local servers, ensuring compliance with national regulations while benefiting from OCI’s advanced services.
This latest expansion underscores Oracle’s broader ambitions in Morocco and signals its intent to strengthen digital infrastructure across the African continent.
