The cold snap gripping large parts of Morocco is set to continue through Sunday, according to a statement released Thursday by the country’s General Directorate of Meteorology. Unusually low temperatures are expected to persist across much of the nation, with several provinces placed under orange alert.
Minimum temperatures are forecast to range between -8°C and -3°C, particularly affecting areas such as Taza, Ouarzazate, Taroudant, Tinghir, Al Haouz, Chichaoua, Azilal, Béni Mellal, Ifrane, Khénifra, Midelt, Boulemane, Sefrou, and Guercif.
Meteorological authorities are urging residents in affected regions to take extra precautions as the harsh winter conditions are expected to last through the weekend.
