Heavy rain and early-season snowfall are expected across several regions of Morocco this Wednesday, according to a weather alert issued by the national meteorological authority.
The forecast warns of strong downpours—some potentially accompanied by thunderstorms—across provinces including Essaouira, El Jadida, Sidi Bennour, Safi, and Agadir-Ida-Ou-Tanane. Rainfall totals could reach between 20 and 30 millimeters over the course of the day, with the most intense conditions predicted between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m. The alert has been issued at the orange level, indicating a heightened risk that may impact daily activities.
In higher elevations, the first snowfall of the season is expected to blanket mountain areas at altitudes above 1,900 meters. Snow accumulation is projected to range from 10 to 20 centimeters, affecting provinces such as Taroudant, Boulemane, Midelt, Tinghir, Al Haouz, Azilal, and Ouarzazate. These wintry conditions are forecast to last until around 11 p.m.
Authorities are urging residents and travelers in affected areas to exercise caution, as the weather could disrupt road travel and make mountain activities hazardous. The combination of heavy rain and snow poses particular risks in elevated and rural regions, where infrastructure may be more vulnerable to sudden changes in weather.
