QatarEnergy and OCP Nutricrops team up for global food security

Amid growing global food security challenges, QatarEnergy and OCP Nutricrops, the plant nutrition subsidiary of Morocco’s OCP Group, have signed a strategic sulfur supply agreement aimed at enhancing sustainable agriculture. Under this ten-year partnership, QatarEnergy will supply up to 7.5 million tons of sulfur to OCP Nutricrops, beginning in the third quarter of 2024.

Since its establishment in 2016, OCP Nutricrops has emerged as a major player in soil nutrition, leveraging the extensive resources of the OCP Group, a global leader in phosphates and derivatives. OCP Nutricrops develops innovative solutions that improve soil fertility and boost crop yields, a critical need in an era where population growth is driving up global food demand.

A shared vision for sustainable agriculture

This agreement reflects the shared commitment of QatarEnergy and OCP Nutricrops to sustainable agricultural practices. Sulfur, a vital component in fertilizer production, is essential for creating nutrient-rich soil that supports crop health and yield optimization. Through this partnership, both companies aim to advance innovative agricultural solutions that increase soil health and productivity, benefiting farmers worldwide.

“We are thrilled to secure this agreement, which not only strengthens our commercial ties with OCP Nutricrops and Morocco but also demonstrates our commitment to supporting the global agricultural sector,” said Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, Qatari Minister of State for Energy Affairs and CEO of QatarEnergy.

Ensuring stability in agricultural supply chains

By collaborating with OCP Nutricrops, QatarEnergy underscores its dedication to establishing long-term partnerships with key players in the fertilizer industry. This alliance guarantees a stable sulfur supply for OCP’s fertilizer production, directly contributing to global food security.

As the global population continues to grow, partnerships like this one will be instrumental in providing the agricultural resources needed to feed the world sustainably. Together, QatarEnergy and OCP Nutricrops are working to tackle some of the most pressing challenges in agriculture, ensuring that both crop nutrition and soil health keep pace with the demands of a changing world.
