Regragui unveils Morocco’s roster for key qualifier in Rabat against Niger

Morocco’s national team coach Walid Regragui has officially named his 27-man squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifier against Niger, scheduled to take place on September 5 in Rabat. The match, part of the seventh round of the African qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, will be held at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex.

Speaking at a press conference Thursday at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Salé, Regragui emphasized a blend of experience and youth in his selection. Several key players are returning to the squad, while a number of emerging talents have also earned their place.

In goal, Regragui is once again counting on Yassine Bounou, who now plays for Al Hilal in Saudi Arabia. He’ll be backed up by Mounir El Kajoui of Renaissance Berkane and Mehdi Lahrar from Raja Casablanca.

The defensive lineup includes familiar names such as Achraf Hakimi from Paris Saint-Germain and Nayef Aguerd of West Ham. Joining them are Achraf Dari (Al Ahly), Omar El Hilali (Espanyol), Adam Masina (Torino), Jawad El Yamiq (Al-Najma), Mohamed Chibi (Pyramids FC), Youssef Belammari (Raja Casablanca), and Souffian El Karouani (Utrecht), offering solid depth across the back line.

In midfield, the squad features seasoned performers like Sofyan Amrabat, now with Fenerbahce, Azzedine Ounahi of Marseille, and Leicester City’s Bilal El Khannous. They’ll be supported by younger names such as Ismael Saibari (PSV), Oussama El Azzouzi (Auxerre), Neil El Ainaoui (AS Roma), and Eliesse Ben Seghir (Monaco), forming a versatile and balanced core.

Up front, Morocco will rely on a potent mix of skill and firepower. Youssef En-Nesyri, now also at Fenerbahce, is joined by Brahim Diaz (Real Madrid), Ayoub El Kaabi (Olympiakos), and Amine Adli (Bournemouth). Rising stars Ilias Akhomach (Villarreal), Hamza Igamane (Rangers), Chemsddine Talbi (Sunderland), and Maroan Sannadi (Athletic Bilbao) round out a promising attacking line.

With this carefully selected squad, Regragui is aiming to maintain momentum and edge closer to qualification for the 2026 World Cup, hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
