The Renault factory in Tangier has reached a new milestone, celebrating the production of its 2,000th Mobilize DUO this past Friday. The DUO is the company’s first fully electric quadricycle manufactured in Morocco, marking a key moment in Renault’s push towards electrification and underscoring the strategic importance of its Moroccan industrial platform.
The occasion drew notable figures including Ryad Mezzour, Morocco’s Minister of Industry and Trade, Omar Moro, President of the Regional Council, Gianluca De Ficchy, CEO of Mobilize, Mohamed Bachiri, Managing Director of Renault Morocco, and Mehdi Tazi Riffi, CEO of the Tanger Med Group. Their presence highlighted the national significance of this achievement and the growing role of Morocco in the global electric mobility sector.
Following the introduction of the locally assembled Dacia Jogger hybrid earlier in 2024, the launch of the Mobilize DUO further demonstrates the Tangier plant’s ability to embrace cutting-edge technologies. A new assembly line, created specifically for this electric model, now enables the factory to produce up to 17,000 units annually—signaling a sharp acceleration in Morocco’s capacity to manufacture next-generation vehicles.
Designed with urban life in mind, the Mobilize DUO represents a leap forward in technological innovation. The vehicle showcases not only Renault’s evolving vision of city transportation but also the rise of local suppliers and equipment tailored to electric mobility. This new ecosystem strengthens Morocco’s industrial foundation, positioning the country as a key player in the transition to cleaner, smarter transport solutions.
Speaking at the event, Minister Ryad Mezzour praised the production of the 2,000th DUO, calling the Tangier plant a trailblazer in carbon neutrality and industrial excellence. He emphasized the collective momentum that has helped Morocco emerge as a strategic hub for the electric mobility sector, an achievement built on collaboration between government, industry, and local talent.
Gianluca De Ficchy, head of Mobilize, reiterated the company’s mission to make electric mobility accessible to all, with a focus on innovative solutions for financing, charging, and urban use. He described the DUO as a tangible response to the changing demands of modern city life, where mobility must be sustainable, flexible, and affordable.
Renault Morocco’s chief, Mohamed Bachiri, underlined the company’s ongoing confidence in Morocco’s industrial capabilities. He stressed that this new project reflects the local teams’ mastery of advanced technologies, a direct result of the “Made in Morocco” strategy Renault has pursued for over two decades. The success of the DUO adds another chapter to this long-standing commitment.
Built specifically for city environments, the Mobilize DUO stands out for its compact design, bold styling, and environmental credentials. The vehicle introduces several firsts in its category, such as upward-opening doors, an airbag system, and embedded connectivity developed in Morocco for export markets. Its development has involved extensive upskilling of local teams, with over 8,000 hours of technical training provided, particularly in the field of electrified vehicles.
Environmentally, the DUO raises the bar: more than 40% of its materials are recycled, and the vehicle is 95% recyclable at end-of-life. It also cuts greenhouse gas emissions by two-thirds compared to a conventional electric vehicle, reinforcing its eco-friendly profile.
While the Mobilize DUO is primarily aimed at European customers, Renault plans to introduce the vehicle to the Moroccan market by the final quarter of 2025.
