Royal Air Maroc is looking for 96 new pilots as the airline prepares for a major expansion of its fleet over the coming years. The recruitment campaign was announced by Atlas Multiservices, the airline group’s recruitment subsidiary, which said it is seeking Moroccan candidates with scientific, technical or technological backgrounds to join as first officers, also known as co-pilots.
Atlas Multiservices is responsible for recruiting and managing staff across the Royal Air Maroc group, including pilots, cabin crew and ground personnel.
The hiring push is part of a much larger growth plan. Royal Air Maroc aims to increase its fleet from about 50 aircraft today to 200 by 2037 under a strategy agreed with the Moroccan government.
Casablanca’s Mohammed V Airport is also being developed as a major hub linking Africa with Europe, the Americas and Asia.
The 96 recruits will begin their careers as first officers before progressing through the ranks. Industry estimates suggest that the number of pilots could provide enough crew to operate around eight to 10 additional medium-haul aircraft.
The recruitment drive also comes as airlines around the world face a shortage of pilots. According to forecasts from Boeing and Airbus, Africa will need more than 20,000 new pilots over the next 20 years to support fleet growth and replace retiring crew.
The International Air Transport Association expects passenger traffic in Africa to grow by more than 5% a year over the next decade.
