Princess Lalla Hasna led the inaugural board meeting of the Royal Theatre Foundation in Rabat on Thursday, marking a significant step in the cultural ambitions championed by King Mohammed VI. The meeting took place within the walls of the Royal Theatre itself and was attended by several high-profile figures, including Brigitte Macron, wife of the French President.
As the Foundation’s president, Princess Lalla Hasna plays a key role in guiding the institution’s mission to elevate Morocco’s cultural profile. The Royal Theatre of Rabat stands as a powerful symbol of the country’s growing investment in the arts, reflecting the King’s broader vision to establish Morocco as a major cultural hub in the region.
This first board session brought together a diverse group of distinguished individuals from various fields. Tasked with shaping the Foundation’s strategic direction, the council includes prominent figures from both the cultural and financial worlds.
Among those seated at the table were Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad Al-Thani, head of Qatar Museums; Brigitte Macron; financier Othman Benjelloun; investment banker Michael Zaoui; economist Makhtar Diop; arts patron Huda Alkhamis-Kanoo; comedian Gad Elmaleh; dermatologist Michel Canesi; pianist Hélène Mercier-Arnault; insurance executive Farid Bensaïd; and architect Mohamed Yacoubi.
The newly established Foundation is set to play a central role in Morocco’s cultural future, drawing on the experience and influence of its diverse board to support artistic excellence and creative development in the country.
