Saham Bank has launched a new service that lets people open a bank account online in about five minutes using its mobile app, without visiting a branch.
The bank said the move is part of its plan to make everyday banking faster and easier while keeping branches available for customers who need advice or support.
Customers can now open an account from their phone, choose the branch they want to be linked to and start using the bank’s services without leaving home. The bank said the service is designed for people who do not always have time to visit a branch.
Ahmed El Yacoubi, Chairman of Saham Bank’s Management Board, said the new service is the result of work to make banking simpler. “Opening a bank account in five minutes is the result of extensive work to make the banking experience simpler. This development will also allow our teams to spend more time supporting customers with their projects.”
The launch adds to several digital services the bank has introduced in recent months. These include free and unlimited instant transfers to all banks through its Start package, which costs 35 Moroccan dirhams ($3.90) a month, customer support available 24 hours a day, online consumer loan applications, digital payment of tuition fees for students studying abroad and real-time foreign exchange through its MyFX service.
The bank said digital services are not meant to replace people. Instead, they allow staff to spend more time helping customers with bigger financial decisions, such as buying a home, financing a business or managing their savings.
Saham Bank said it will launch more mobile apps for different groups of customers in the coming months. It also plans to upgrade its branches to improve the experience for customers.
Formerly known as Société Générale Marocaine de Banques, Saham Bank has been operating in Morocco since 1913. It serves individuals, professionals and businesses across the country.
