Reigning world champion and Olympic gold medalist Soufiane El Bakkali triumphed in the first round of the 3000m steeplechase on Monday, finishing with a time of 8:17.90 at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. This victory secures his place in the final, scheduled for Wednesday, August 7, at the Stade de France.
El Bakkali outpaced Ugandan runner Leonard Chemutail, who finished second with a time of 8:18.19, and Ethiopian athlete Getnet Wale, who came in third at 8:18.25.
This win continues El Bakkali’s impressive streak, reinforcing his status as a top contender for the gold in the upcoming final.
