The 22nd edition of the Tanjazz Festival will take place from September 19 to 22 in Tangier, offering jazz enthusiasts and world music lovers a rich and diverse program that spans various styles, eras, and atmospheres.
Firmly rooted in Tangier’s cultural heritage, Tanjazz returns with a fresh new branding, now called “Festival des Jazz de Tanger,” and a visual identity that reflects the city’s musical diversity and vibrant energy, according to a statement from the organizers.
For the festival’s opening on September 19, the Palais des Arts et de la Culture will host a unique creation: a fusion of Afro-Cuban melodies from Omar Sosa Quarteto AfroCubano and the Gnaoua-inspired sounds of Majid Bekkas Afro Gnaoua Blues Trio in a special inaugural concert.
On September 21 and 22, the Palais des Institutions Italiennes will open its doors for the first time, offering parallel programs in both its indoor and outdoor spaces. The outdoor stage, set within the palace’s gardens, will feature headline performances, while the gardens themselves will be transformed with two food courts and various activities, including fanfare performances between concerts, creating a festive and welcoming atmosphere.
Throughout these two days, the Lazcare Volcano brass band will keep the energy high before and after concerts, adding to the lively atmosphere of the event.
Inside the palace, dance classes will kick off the evening, followed by jam sessions to close each night, ensuring a dynamic and interactive festival experience.
The festival’s program includes a wide range of jazz, from classic to contemporary, along with a touch of rock ‘n’ roll, making it a must-attend event for music lovers of all kinds.
