The legendary Mohammed V Sports Complex, a revered symbol of Moroccan football, is set to reopen its doors at the end of March, dazzling fans with a modern transformation that honors its rich legacy and loyal supporters. This announcement came from Fouzi Lekjaa, President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), during a recent site visit with Casablanca-Settat regional governor Mohamed Mhidia and local officials.
The renovation project, now nearing completion, will elevate the stadium’s capacity to over 44,000 seats. Cutting-edge upgrades are being installed, including enhanced locker rooms, press areas, and improved public access routes. This ambitious overhaul is part of a grand vision to cement Casablanca’s status as a global football hub, as Morocco prepares to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup alongside Portugal and Spain.
In addition to the Mohammed V Complex upgrade, Casablanca is gaining another football landmark: the Hassan II Stadium in Benslimane, which will accommodate more than 115,000 fans. Construction is already underway, with a completion date set for 2027. “Casablanca will etch its name in the annals of World Cup history by hosting some of the tournament’s most prestigious matches,” said Lekjaa, emphasizing the project’s strategic importance for the city’s international aspirations.
The modernization efforts extend beyond major stadiums. Training grounds and club academies are also receiving much-needed attention. The Wydad Training School and the Raja Academy are being equipped with new natural-grass pitches. Similarly, stadiums like Oasis and Benjelloun are undergoing turf upgrades, while comprehensive renovations are in progress at Larbi Zaouli and Père Jégo, ensuring local clubs meet international standards.
Two large-scale projects are also underway in Bouskoura and Médiouna. In Bouskoura, a sprawling 32-hectare national complex is being developed, modeled after the prestigious Mohammed VI Complex in Maâmoura. Médiouna will house a 12-hectare federal facility designed to support the region’s football training and development. These investments are aimed at creating lasting infrastructure that will nurture future generations of talent.
Lekjaa highlighted that these major investments will allow Casablanca to capitalize on upcoming international events while providing clubs like Raja and Wydad with top-tier facilities. This transformative vision is poised to reinforce the city’s football legacy and propel its teams to new heights on the world stage.
