Thunderstorms, hail, and flood risks expected across Moroccan provinces

Severe thunderstorms are forecast to sweep across multiple regions of Morocco this Tuesday, bringing heavy downpours, hail, and strong winds, according to a weather warning issued by the General Directorate of Meteorology.

The first wave of storms is expected to strike the central regions late morning, with the provinces of Fez, Ifrane, El Hajeb, Meknes, Moulay Yacoub, Sefrou, Taza, Taounate, and Khemisset likely to be affected between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Rainfall in these areas could be particularly intense, with local accumulations reaching up to 35 millimeters in just a few hours.

Later in the day, the storm system is set to push eastward. Between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m., another round of unstable weather will target the provinces of Guercif, Driouch, Figuig, Jerada, Nador, Oujda-Angad, Taourirt, Berkane, and Boulemane. Thunderstorms in these areas may be locally violent, posing risks of flash flooding and damage.

By late afternoon, the storm activity is forecast to reach southern Morocco. The provinces of Aousserd and Oued Ed-Dahab could be hit from 3 p.m. until around 11 p.m., with the same hazardous weather conditions—sudden gusts, hail, and intense rainfall.

The alert, which has been classified as orange-level, urges residents in all affected areas to remain cautious. Authorities warn of potential flash floods, sudden river rises, and localized damage caused by wind or hail. People living in vulnerable zones are advised to stay informed and take necessary precautions as the storm system moves across the country.
