A UK health delegation is visiting Morocco to expand cooperation in healthcare, medical research and innovation. The delegation includes representatives from Healthcare UK and the UK’s Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC). The visit follows a memorandum of understanding signed by both countries in June 2025 to increase cooperation in several strategic sectors.
The visit started in Casablanca with meetings at the Mohammed VI Foundation for Sciences and Health (FM6SS). Talks focused on medical education, scientific research and innovation.
Both sides discussed closer cooperation on training programmes for doctors, nurses and healthcare managers. They also looked at joint clinical research, including clinical trials, real-world health data and artificial intelligence in healthcare. Other topics included common standards for accreditation and best practice to make it easier for healthcare professionals to work across both countries.
FM6SS has already launched centres of excellence, advanced diagnostic platforms and clinical research programmes, including projects on rare diseases and precision medicine.
The delegation then visited Oncorad Group to discuss cancer care, public-private partnerships (PPPs) and the use of British technology in healthcare infrastructure.
Cancer is one of the main priorities in Morocco’s healthcare reform. The discussions covered integrated patient pathways from screening and diagnosis to treatment and follow-up. They also explored PPP models for radiotherapy and oncology centres, advanced imaging and treatment planning, digital patient monitoring and hospital management.
Healthcare UK, which promotes NHS expertise and British healthcare companies overseas, could support future projects through feasibility studies, infrastructure planning and partnerships between British and Moroccan organisations.
The final stop was AstraZeneca Morocco, where discussions focused on stronger and more sustainable health systems, innovation and workforce development.
The visit builds on a memorandum of understanding signed in May 2026 between the Ministry of Health and Social Protection and AstraZeneca. The agreement supports clinical research, artificial intelligence, digital health tools, real-world data and training for healthcare professionals.
It also expands the Healthy Heart Africa programme, which focuses on cardiovascular and kidney diseases, and supports efforts to strengthen the country’s health system.
AstraZeneca has also worked with FM6SS on projects including the use of artificial intelligence to improve the early detection of lung cancer, as well as centres of excellence and precision medicine.
The visit could lead to joint projects in cancer care, rare diseases and cardiovascular health. It could also create new training and exchange programmes for healthcare professionals and encourage investment in modern healthcare infrastructure through public and private funding.
