The 6th edition of the prestigious Car of the Year (COTY) Morocco awards has crowned the Volkswagen Tiguan as the winner during a grand ceremony held on Thursday, January 23. The German SUV triumphed over a highly competitive lineup, cementing its status as a favorite among Moroccan consumers.
The event brought together key figures from Morocco’s automotive industry, including Ryad Mezzour, Minister of Industry and Trade; Adil Bennani, President of the Moroccan Association of Vehicle Importers (AIVAM); and Benacer Boulaâjoul, Director General of the National Road Safety Agency (NARSA). Automotive importers, industry professionals, and partners were also in attendance to celebrate the latest edition of this highly anticipated competition.
The Volkswagen Tiguan faced stiff competition from strong contenders such as the BYD Seal U, Cupra Leon, Dacia Jogger, Peugeot 3008, Renault Kardian, and Skoda Kodiaq. Its victory underscores the SUV’s popularity in Morocco, thanks to its blend of cutting-edge technology, outstanding performance, and sophisticated design.
During the award presentation, Youssef Touhami, Volkswagen Morocco’s brand director, expressed his gratitude to the jury and event partners. He also praised his team’s dedication and hard work, which have contributed to the brand’s growing success in the Moroccan market.
The success of this year’s competition was driven by the meticulous work of a panel of seasoned automotive journalists and industry experts. The jury, chaired by Hatim Bouazer from Leguideauto.ma, included influential names such as Jalil Bennani (Driverslife.ma), Essam Chraibi (wandaloo.com), Leila Benjelloun (Golf du Maroc), and other notable figures from Morocco’s automotive and media landscape.
Each finalist was evaluated based on stringent criteria, including safety features, technological innovation, design aesthetics, fuel efficiency, and overall user experience.
