WafR has changed its name to Waly Cash as the Moroccan fintech company expands its digital financial services across the country. The company helps small neighbourhood shops offer services such as bill payments, mobile airtime top-ups, payment processing, and cash-in and cash-out transactions.
Founded by Ismail Bargach and Reda El Zouak (Sllak), Waly Cash now works with around 20,000 shops across Morocco. The network serves tens of thousands of customers, giving people access to financial services close to where they live.
Small shops use the company’s app on Android devices or point-of-sale systems to handle everyday financial transactions. Shop owners earn commissions on each transaction while attracting more customers to their stores.
Banks, telecom companies and utility providers also benefit from the network. They can reach customers through thousands of existing shops instead of opening new branches or service centres.
People who do not have a bank account or credit card can use the service to pay bills, top up mobile phones and make other everyday payments near their homes.
The rebrand comes after Waly Cash secured seed funding from LoftyInc Capital, Attijariwafa Ventures, and Al Mada Ventures. The investment will help the company grow its platform and expand its presence in the digital financial services market.
The platform runs on cloud-based technology that processes transactions in real time. It connects with telecom operators, payment providers and utility companies through APIs. The system also tracks merchant balances, commissions and credit limits. Shops can continue processing transactions even when internet access is limited through offline and SMS-based features.
