Women’s Africa Cup of Nations 2025: Morocco showcases sporting excellence

Morocco is gearing up to host one of the biggest showcases of African women’s football as the continent’s top teams gather for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, taking place from July 5 to 26 across six stadiums in four cities.

Fans in Rabat, Casablanca, Mohammedia, Berkane, and Oujda will have the chance to witness some of the brightest stars in women’s football, all set against the backdrop of Morocco’s impressive sporting infrastructure. The event not only celebrates the growing prominence of women’s football but also highlights Morocco’s organizational expertise and its rising status as a key player in hosting major international tournaments.

At the heart of the competition stands Rabat’s brand-new Olympic Stadium, which, with its 21,000-seat capacity and cutting-edge facilities, will host both the opening match—where Morocco faces Zambia—and the grand final. This state-of-the-art venue symbolizes the country’s commitment to modernizing its sports offerings and has already earned praise from the Confederation of African Football for its quality and comfort.

Nearby, the El Bachir Stadium in Mohammedia, known for having hosted the U17 Africa Cup of Nations final, will stage three group matches. With its 15,000 seats and meticulously maintained pitch, it’s perfectly suited for high-stakes clashes.

Casablanca, Morocco’s economic capital, will serve as the competition’s beating heart, featuring two major stadiums. The Larbi Zaouli Stadium, with a capacity of 30,000, will host six matches, including key knockout rounds such as quarterfinals, semifinals, and the third-place playoff. Its central location makes it a crucial venue for this year’s tournament. A short distance away, the Père Jégo Stadium—deeply rooted in Casablanca’s sporting history—will offer a more intimate setting with its 10,000-seat capacity, staging three matches in what promises to be an electric atmosphere.

Further east, the municipal stadium in Berkane, which holds 15,000 spectators, will host four matches including a quarterfinal. Its modern and functional design ensures a top-tier experience for players and fans alike. Meanwhile, the Stade d’Honneur in Oujda, with nearly 20,000 seats and a natural grass pitch meeting international standards, will also welcome four matches, providing another high-quality venue for the tournament.

Beyond the matches themselves, this event is a testament to Morocco’s ability to deliver world-class sporting experiences. With an eye toward both continental and global ambitions, the country continues to solidify its reputation as a regional hub for major sporting events, reinforcing its position on the international stage.
