Yacine Faqir to lead Revolut’s moroccan debut

Revolut is preparing to break into the Moroccan market, naming Yacine Faqir as the head of its upcoming local branch. The former Mastercard executive will serve as the company’s Managing Director for Morocco, tasked with leading the rollout and handling all regulatory procedures required for the launch.

This move marks a key step in Revolut’s broader expansion strategy, as the UK-based digital bank sets its sights on French-speaking Africa as a new growth frontier. Morocco, identified as a priority market, will be the first country in the region where the fintech establishes operations.

Faqir brings significant experience to the table. Until recently, he served as Vice President of Products and Solutions for North and Francophone Africa at Mastercard. His deep understanding of financial services and African markets positions him well to steer Revolut’s entry into Morocco. The company aims to tailor its offerings to fit the country’s unique regulatory and economic landscape—a goal that aligns with Faqir’s expertise.

In a recent LinkedIn post, Faqir described this new role as the beginning of a “new chapter” and expressed pride in joining a team he says is driven by purpose and performance. He also shared his excitement about helping Revolut grow in Morocco.

With operations in around 30 countries and a user base exceeding 40 million globally, Revolut has built a reputation for its fully mobile banking platform and low-cost, versatile services. Its model has proven especially popular among younger, urban consumers looking for alternatives to traditional banks.

Revolut’s entry into Morocco could be a major milestone in the country’s evolving fintech landscape. However, the launch remains contingent on securing approval from local authorities, a crucial step before its services can go live.
