A groundbreaking partnership between the Ministry of National Education, Preschool, and Sports and Orange Maroc has introduced nearly 100,000 students to the world of coding through Scratch, marking a significant step towards revolutionizing digital education in Morocco.

During the 2023-2024 academic year, an extensive online training program reached 1,500 teachers, enabling 50,000 students to delve into the basics of coding with Scratch. This initiative, jointly announced by the Ministry of National Education and Orange Maroc, underscores a commitment to digital literacy.

Furthermore, 12 regional hackathons were held from April to June, organized by the Regional Academies of Education and Training (AREF). These events featured volunteers from Orange Maroc and coaches from Happy Coder Academy, who had previously conducted the online training sessions. The hackathons brought together students from all provincial directorates to compete, aiming to select a pair from each AREF to represent their region at the national hackathon.

Since its inception in 2018, this partnership has exemplified Orange Maroc’s dedication to digital inclusion and innovation, striving to democratize access to new technologies for all students.

The national hackathon event, held at the Orange Digital Center, was attended by Chakib Benmoussa, the Minister of National Education, Preschool, and Sports, and Hendrik Kasteel, CEO of Orange Maroc. Twelve teams, each representing a region, competed to impress the jury and emerge as the winner.

“The ‘Super Coder’ project aims to promote equal access to new technologies among students, supporting their social and cognitive development,” the joint statement highlighted.

This initiative aligns with the Ministry’s 2022-2026 roadmap for quality public education, establishing itself as a crucial pillar for digital education in Morocco. The partnership aims to reach an additional 50,000 students in the 2024-2025 academic year, continuing the regional and national hackathons.

By fostering a collaborative environment in schools, this initiative empowers students to work together on diverse themes, enhance their teamwork skills, and present their projects publicly, creating a dynamic and interactive educational experience.
