Morocco’s Nadia Fettah named top finance minister in Africa

Nadia Fettah was named Finance Minister of the Year at the African Banker Awards held Wednesday night in Abidjan. The award recognizes her leadership in steering Morocco’s economy through uncertain times while advancing reforms aimed at making the country more appealing to investors.

As Morocco’s Minister of Economy and Finance, Fettah has overseen a disciplined approach to macroeconomic management, even as global and regional challenges have intensified. The jury praised the strategic direction of her policies, which have aimed to ensure stability while laying the groundwork for long-term economic growth.

The award ceremony took place on the sidelines of the African Development Bank’s annual meetings, adding to its significance. It was a moment to spotlight figures driving transformation in African finance—not just policymakers like Fettah, but also leaders within the banking sector.

Among those also honored this year was Patricia Ojangole, CEO of the Uganda Development Bank, who was named Banker of the Year. Her leadership has been credited with strengthening Uganda’s development finance capabilities and pushing forward key investment initiatives.

The African Banker Awards, organized by the African Banker magazine in collaboration with IC Events and Business in Africa Events, celebrate the most influential achievements in Africa’s banking and finance industries. Each year, the event highlights individuals and institutions that are shaping the continent’s financial future.
