The wali of the region Marrakech-Safi, governor of the prefecture of Marrakech, Karim Kassi-Lahlou, made a field visit on Monday to inquire about the progress of the project to develop the first stage of the Place Jemaâ El Fna.
On this occasion, explanations were presented to the Wali by the engineering firm that oversees this project, on this first stage which concerns the restoration of facades and the strengthening of public lighting, with a focus on the quality of interventions in each construction, while ensuring the preservation of its architectural character and its historical significance.
In this regard, Kassi-Lahlou called for compliance with the deadlines set for the execution of the work scheduled, taking into account the working conditions and activities of various stores and markets on site.
knowing that this project has generated a favorable response from traders, artisans and users of the square Jemaâ El Fna, who have expressed their total mobilization for the success of this major operation.
The development project of the mythical square of Jemaâ El Fna, which includes public lighting, paving and development of facades and roofs, for an overall investment of 40 million dirhams, is part of the sites opened under the development program and enhancement of the old medina of the ocher city, launched by King Mohammed VI.
During this visit, Kassi-Lahlou was accompanied, in particular, by the secretary general of the prefecture of Marrakech, the heads of services at the wilaya, the heads of external services concerned and representatives of local authorities.
