Over the past three years, Morocco has processed nearly half a million electronic visa applications—a figure that highlights growing interest in the digital system and reinforces its role in boosting the country’s appeal on both the tourism and international stages.
In its third year alone, the e-visa program received 187,895 applications, marking a sharp rise from the previous year. This surge reflects not only the system’s expanding reach but also the smoother experience it now offers travelers. The overwhelming majority of applications—94.1 percent—were for tourism purposes, while business travel accounted for the remaining 5.9 percent. While tourism directly drives visitor numbers, the business-related requests support Morocco’s broader strategy of economic diplomacy and global engagement.
Since its launch, the e-visa platform has been available to citizens of 118 countries and offers two options: a standard visa processed within 72 hours and an express version delivered in just 24 hours, giving travelers greater flexibility depending on the urgency of their trip.
The system has proven especially useful during major international events hosted in Morocco. For instance, it was a key tool during the 2023 annual meetings of the IMF and World Bank in Marrakech, which drew participants from 109 countries. It also facilitated access for attendees of the last two editions of GITEX Africa, where the platform handled requests from 118 and 117 nationalities, respectively.
At the intersection of tourism, diplomacy, and digital transformation, Morocco’s e-visa program has become a cornerstone of modernizing consular services. More than just a convenience, it plays a strategic role in shaping the country’s image as an open, forward-looking destination on the global stage.
