Falcon Energy nears completion of graphite pilot plant in Morocco

Falcon Energy Materials, headquartered in Abu Dhabi, has announced that its pilot plant for coated purified spherical graphite—currently under construction in Jorf Lasfar—is entering its final development phase. Built in partnership with Fluoralpha, the facility is on track to begin operations in the fourth quarter of 2025. The first product samples, intended for client testing, are expected as early as September.

These initial trials are a crucial step toward securing long-term supply agreements for a full-scale anode production plant, which the company plans to develop on the same site. This future facility aims for an annual production capacity of 25,000 tons. In the meantime, the pilot plant will produce 100 kilograms of CSPG per day, enough to support large-scale qualification programs with potential customers.

Construction of the pilot facility has been entrusted to Open Steel Structure Maroc SAR, the Moroccan subsidiary of China’s Open Building Systems—an industry leader in battery-related infrastructure. Steel deliveries to the construction site are scheduled to begin in early September, marking a key milestone in the project’s timeline.

But the company’s ambitions go far beyond sample production. Falcon sees this pilot plant as a foundational step toward establishing a major anode manufacturing hub and ensuring a stable, long-term supply of critical materials. Emphasizing the importance of secure and sustainable supply chains, the company is pursuing a fully integrated solution—from raw material extraction to finished product delivery—leveraging global access to high-quality graphite.

Jorf Lasfar was selected as the project’s location for strategic reasons. Situated within the industrial zone of Fluoralpha SA, a subsidiary of Innov X, the site offers a combination of competitive costs, direct access to port infrastructure, and close proximity to both European and North American markets—making it an ideal launchpad for Falcon’s global ambitions.
