Morocco’s tourism boom continues with record-breaking summer

Morocco’s tourism industry is having a standout year in 2025, riding a wave of renewed international interest and unprecedented visitor numbers. The sector’s upward momentum has become impossible to ignore, with each passing month reinforcing a full-fledged recovery. By the end of July, the country had already welcomed 11.6 million tourists—an impressive 16% jump compared to the same period last year.

This surge builds on a strong start to the year. In the first quarter alone, tourism added significant value to the economy, with a 9.7% increase—three times the growth rate recorded during the same period in 2024.

July was especially remarkable, drawing 2.7 million arrivals in just one month. A major contributor to this figure was the large number of Moroccans living abroad returning for the summer. They accounted for roughly two-thirds of the total, or about 1.8 million visitors during July alone.

The recovery is also clear in the hospitality sector. Overnight stays in classified accommodations rose by 13% through the end of June, improving on the 8.4% growth seen during the same timeframe last year. The second quarter was particularly strong, with a 14% spike in overnight stays. International visitors drove most of this increase, with non-resident bookings jumping 16%, while domestic travel saw a more modest but notable rebound of 5%, reversing last year’s decline.

Revenue figures tell a similar story. By the end of June, tourism-related income had reached 54 billion dirhams, reflecting a year-over-year rise of 9.6%. The second quarter alone brought in a 16.7% boost in earnings—far outpacing the more modest 2.2% gain seen in the first quarter.
