King Mohammed VI launches landmark mental health facility in Médiouna

In Sidi Hajjaj Oued Hassar, located in the Médiouna province, King Mohammed VI presided Wednesday over the groundbreaking of a major regional facility dedicated to the psychosocial rehabilitation of individuals living with mental health disorders. Spearheaded by the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, the ambitious project represents an investment of 300 million dirhams.

Designed as a long-term support center, the complex aims to provide both therapeutic and social care to help stabilize patients and reintegrate them into society. It will offer personalized programs that combine psychotherapy, cognitive remediation, vocational workshops, and targeted training—all intended to strengthen the autonomy and skillsets of its beneficiaries.

Spanning eight hectares, the future facility will feature accommodation for 396 residents, including 84 beds specifically for women. It will include a dedicated pavilion for therapy and training, as well as a comprehensive care hub offering general medicine, psychiatry, psychology, dental services, therapeutic education, and psychoeducation. The center will also include spaces for artistic, athletic, and educational activities, a training farm, and a library.

This initiative is part of a broader national strategy led by the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity to expand access to healthcare for vulnerable populations. It aligns with a larger vision of social inclusion for people facing mental health challenges, by providing them with tailored care in an environment that promotes healing, dignity, and personal growth.

The project brings together multiple public entities in a coordinated effort. In addition to the Foundation, funding and implementation involve the ministries of Health and Solidarity, local governments from Casablanca and Médiouna, and the National Initiative for Human Development. Once operational, the facility will be jointly managed by the Health and Solidarity ministries.

This latest initiative adds to a growing list of programs developed in the Casablanca-Settat region under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, focused on improving the lives of people experiencing poverty, exclusion, or other forms of vulnerability.
