A joint delegation from Morocco’s two parliamentary chambers recently traveled to Oslo to deepen political ties with Norway, marking a new chapter in the countries’ interparliamentary relations. The visit included high-level meetings with the Vice President of the Norwegian Parliament, as well as key committees focused on foreign affairs, defense, family, and cultural matters. The talks, held in a spirit of openness and mutual understanding, covered a broad range of shared interests—from global geopolitical dynamics to potential avenues for economic collaboration.
During the discussions, the Moroccan delegation emphasized the Kingdom’s stabilizing role across several key regions, including the Euro-Atlantic space, the Mediterranean, and the Sahel-Sahara zone. A particular focus was placed on the Atlantic African Initiative, spearheaded by King Mohammed VI, which aims to promote co-development, enhance continental integration, and improve African countries’ access to global economic opportunities.
The situation in Morocco’s southern provinces was also a central topic, following the recent adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 2797. The Moroccan representatives highlighted the resolution’s reaffirmation that autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty remains the only credible and realistic foundation for a lasting political solution in the region.
The meetings also offered an opportunity to highlight Morocco’s domestic reforms. Discussions touched on increasing youth and women’s representation in Parliament, expanding social protection programs, and accelerating the country’s transition to sustainable energy. Norway expressed particular interest in Morocco’s progress in renewable energy, especially its initiatives around green hydrogen.
This visit reflects a broader effort to strengthen parliamentary dialogue and solidify long-term cooperation between Morocco and Norway. Both sides expressed a shared commitment to building a more robust partnership grounded in mutual respect and forward-looking collaboration.
