Morocco FA Backs CAF Decision on AFCON 2025 Title

Morocco’s football federation says it supports a decision by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to award the Africa Cup of Nations “Morocco 2025” title to Morocco.

In a statement, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) said the ruling “moves in the direction of respecting the rules and achieving the stability needed to ensure the proper conduct of international competitions”.

The federation said it had always called for “the strict application of the competition rules”, adding: “The aim of this step was never to challenge the sporting performance of the teams, but only to demand respect for the rules.”

It said that after an earlier decision it had appealed, CAF now accepts that “the rule, known to all and applicable to all, was not respected”.

The FRMF said it followed all legal steps in the case, submitting documents, attending hearings and working to protect its rights and ensure the rules were followed.

It added that the decision “helps clarify the rules in similar cases and strengthens the consistency and credibility of international competitions, especially African football”.

The federation said it would continue to “defend the strict and fair application of the rules” in future cases, and is now looking ahead to upcoming tournaments, including the World Cup and the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations this summer.
