More than 105,000 people have received financial help to buy a home under Morocco’s Direct Housing Assistance Programme, according to the government.

The scheme, launched in 2024, is aimed mainly at middle-income families and people who previously found it difficult to afford a home.

Speaking in the House of Councillors on Tuesday, Secretary of State for Housing Adib Benbrahim said the programme had attracted strong demand from people looking to buy their first home.

He said the government had received 218,877 applications from across the country so far.

According to official figures, Moroccans living abroad account for 24% of beneficiaries, while women make up 47.5%. More than half of recipients, 52%, are under the age of 40.

The programme offers two levels of support. Around 60% of beneficiaries received grants of 70,000 dirhams for homes priced between 300,000 and 700,000 dirhams. The remaining 40% received 100,000 dirhams towards homes costing 300,000 dirhams or less.

Mr Benbrahim said Fez recorded the highest number of beneficiaries. Other areas with high demand include Berrechid, Meknes, Casablanca, Kenitra, El Jadida, Benslimane, Settat, Mediouna and Oujda-Angad.

The total value of homes bought through the programme has reached more than 43.19bn dirhams. The government contributed around 8.6bn dirhams in direct aid.

Mr Benbrahim said the programme, along with Morocco’s social and low-cost housing schemes, helped provide 99,140 subsidised homes by the end of 2025.
