Morocco’s women’s national team is in the final stage of preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), which runs from 26 July to 16 August.
The Atlas Lionesses will begin the tournament against Kenya on 26 July before facing Algeria on 30 July and Senegal on 3 August. All three Group A matches will kick off at 21:00 and will be played at Stade Prince Moulay El Hassan in Rabat.
The team is aiming to win the tournament and qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil. The four teams that reach the WAFCON semi-finals will qualify automatically, while other top finishers can still earn a place through the inter-confederation play-offs.
Morocco will count on home support as it looks to reach the knockout stage.
The team heads into the tournament in strong form after a 5-0 win over Cape Verde in a friendly on 21 July. Earlier this year, Morocco beat Benin 4-2 and Tanzania 3-0, drew 0-0 with New Zealand and 1-1 with Mali.
Women’s football in Morocco has grown quickly in recent years. The country has invested in stadiums, training facilities and the Mohammed VI Football Complex. Professional contracts have also been introduced across the top two domestic divisions, while clubs have received support to develop youth academies.
The squad includes players from AS FAR, winners of the CAF Women’s Champions League, along with footballers playing in France, Spain and other European leagues.
