
People living abroad sent 61.48 billion dirhams ($6.8bn) to Morocco during the first six months of 2026, up 9.9% from 55.95 billion dirhams a year earlier.
New figures from the Foreign Exchange Office also showed strong growth in tourism income and foreign direct investment (FDI).
Travel brought in 64.89 billion dirhams, a 15.9% increase from the same period last year. Moroccans spent 16.09 billion dirhams on travel abroad, up 3.6%. That left the travel account with a surplus of 48.8 billion dirhams, an increase of 20.6%.
Net foreign direct investment reached 26.16 billion dirhams, up 31.5%. Money coming into the country through FDI rose 14.4%, while related spending fell 20.5%.
Moroccan companies also continued to invest overseas. Net direct investment abroad stood at 5.71 billion dirhams by the end of June.
Money sent home by Moroccans living abroad remains one of the country’s biggest sources of foreign currency. More than five million Moroccans live overseas, mainly in France, Spain and Italy. Digital money transfer services and lower transfer costs have helped keep remittances growing.
Remittances reached a record 119 billion dirhams in 2024. They grew by an average of 5.7% a year between 2021 and 2024.
Tourism also continued to perform well. Morocco welcomed about 9.4 million visitors in the first half of 2026, a 6% increase from the same period in 2025. Tourist numbers grew the most from Poland (32%), Germany (14%) and the Netherlands (10%).
