Paying for a coffee or shopping could soon become easier for Galaxy users in Morocco, who will be able to leave their bank cards at home and pay with their phones or smartwatches. Samsung has launched its digital wallet service in the country through a partnership with Banque Populaire and Visa. The service was unveiled in Casablanca.
Samsung Wallet allows users to add their bank cards to compatible Galaxy devices and pay by holding their phones or watches near contactless payment terminals.
The service accepts Visa debit, credit and prepaid cards issued by participating Moroccan banks. These currently include Banque Populaire, CIH Bank and Attijariwafa bank.
The application can also store digital car keys, boarding passes, loyalty cards and promotional coupons.
Samsung says payments are protected by its Knox security system and biometric authentication, which allows users to verify their identity through features such as fingerprint or facial recognition.
“With Samsung Wallet, we want paying to become as natural as using your smartphone or connected watch,” said Hongseok Lee, president of Samsung Electronics Maghreb Arab.
“This launch marks a new step in our commitment to providing Galaxy users with simple, secure, and truly useful everyday innovations.”
Hassan Debbagh, deputy general manager in charge of support functions at Banque Centrale Populaire Group, said the partnership was part of the bank’s efforts to expand digital payments.
“We are proud to support the launch of Samsung Wallet in Morocco, alongside a major global technology player,” he said.
“This collaboration aligns with the ongoing innovations deployed by Banque Populaire and marks a new milestone in the digitalisation of payments.”
The launch adds to Banque Populaire’s wider efforts to make digital payments more accessible and reduce the use of cash.
The bank was among the early players in the country’s mobile wallet market with BPAY. Its wallet services are now integrated with Maroc Pay, the national payment system supported by Bank Al-Maghrib. This allows customers to pay by scanning QR codes at participating shops, even when the merchant uses a different bank.
Banque Populaire has also introduced a Tap to Pay application that turns a smartphone with near-field communication (NFC) technology into a payment terminal. This allows small businesses to accept contactless bank cards and digital wallets without buying or renting a separate payment machine.
The banking group has also updated its card services. In June 2026, it introduced LA VIRTUELLE, a virtual card designed to make online shopping more secure, and L’INSTANT, a card aimed at everyday digital payments.
The group is also using cloud technology and artificial intelligence to extend banking services to people who have limited access to traditional banking. Through its subsidiary M2T, it offers Chaabi Payment, a service that uses local payment agents to reach people in remote areas and those without bank accounts.
Samsung Wallet is being introduced gradually on compatible Galaxy devices. Eligible customers can access the service through the Samsung Wallet application.
