Bank Al-Maghrib is issuing six commemorative coins to mark three national occasions: King Mohammed VI’s 63rd birthday, the 27th anniversary of his accession to the throne and the first anniversary of Unity Day.
The coins were approved through three decrees published in the latest edition of the Official Gazette. Each set includes a 1,000-dirham gold coin and a 250-dirham silver coin.
The first set was approved under Decree No. 2.26.409, issued on 23 July 2026.
The 1,000-dirham gold coin is made of 916.7 parts per thousand gold, or about 22 carats. It weighs 39.94g and has a diameter of 38.61mm.
The front shows a portrait of King Mohammed VI with the words “Kingdom of Morocco” in Arabic and Tifinagh. The bottom reads “Mohammed VI” and shows the year of issue in the Hijri and Gregorian calendars: 1448-2026.
The back reads “The 63rd Anniversary of the Birth of His Majesty King Mohammed VI”. It also features the national coat of arms, decorative arabesque designs, a five-pointed star, and the number “63”. The bottom shows the face value, “One Thousand (1000) Dirhams”, and the French inscription “63ème Anniversaire de Sa Majesté le Roi Mohammed VI”.
The 250-dirham silver coin is made of 925 parts per thousand silver and 75 parts per thousand copper. It weighs 28.28g and has the same diameter of 38.61mm. It carries the same design as the gold coin, except for the face value.
The second set was approved under Decree No. 2.26.410, also issued on 23 July 2026.
The gold coin has the same size, weight and metal content as the birthday coin. The front uses the same design.
The back reads “The 27th Anniversary of His Majesty’s Accession to the Throne”. It also features the national coat of arms, decorative five-pointed stars and the number “27”. The face value remains “One Thousand (1000) Dirhams”.
The 250-dirham silver coin follows the same design, with inscriptions linked to the Throne Day anniversary.
The third set was approved under Decree No. 2.26.411, issued on 23 July 2026.
The gold coin keeps the same specifications and front design as the other commemorative coins.
The back reads “The First Anniversary of Unity Day”. It features the national coat of arms between two olive branches and the inscription “Thirty-First of October”. The face value remains “One Thousand (1000) Dirhams”.
The 250-dirham silver coin has the same reverse design as the gold version, with the only difference being its face value of 250 dirhams.
