TGCC has won a 1.824 billion dirham ($182 million) contract to build a new Tessema Stadium in Casablanca after beating construction company SGTM in a tender. The new stadium will replace the old Tessema Stadium, which was demolished because it could no longer meet modern standards. It will be built on a 6.62-hectare site in the Ben M’Sik-Sidi Othmane district and will have 30,000 seats and a partially covered roof.
TGCC and SGTM were the only companies to bid for the contract. TGCC won after submitting a bid of 1.824 billion dirhams, lower than SGTM’s offer of 1.883 billion dirhams. Both companies are listed on the Casablanca Stock Exchange.
The contract covers the second phase of the project. It includes the main concrete structure, steel works, roofing, waterproofing, interior and exterior cladding, suspended ceilings, carpentry, painting and final finishing works.
The first phase ended about two months ago. It covered excavation, site levelling and demolition work. SNTRO won that contract with a bid of 36.44 million dirhams, including tax.
Work on the project began earlier this year. In February, the Public Laboratory for Tests and Studies won a 6.99 million dirham contract to carry out geotechnical studies, inspect excavation works and monitor construction quality.
The project’s architectural design was chosen in December last year after a competition involving 11 architects and professional groups. The estimated construction costs proposed by the competing designs ranged from 642 million dirhams to about 680 million dirhams.
