Morocco beat Nigeria 3-0 in Rabat to reach the Davis Cup World Group I playoffs. The team won all three matches in the World Group II playoff at the Union Sportive des Cheminots Marocains (USCM) clay courts.
Karim Bennani put Morocco ahead on Saturday with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Nigeria’s Canice Abua. Yassine Dlimi then beat Daniel Adeleye to give the team a 2-0 lead.
Younes Lalami Laaroussi and Walid Ahouda secured the win on Sunday. They beat Michael Emmanuel and Yusuf Abubakar 6-3, 6-2 in the doubles match.
The result means Morocco will play in the World Group I playoffs in February 2027.
Dlimi said after his first match that the team would approach the remaining games “with the same seriousness to officially secure qualification”.
Hicham Arazi coaches the Moroccan team. Arazi is a former top Moroccan tennis player.
The result also extends Morocco’s unbeaten Davis Cup record against Nigeria, which dates back to 1973.
Nigeria reached World Group II for the first time in 30 years after beating Uzbekistan in February 2026. The team, coached by Benson Ishicheli, could not win a match in Rabat.
The World Group I playoffs will give Morocco a chance to move up another level in international team tennis.
