A Moroccan payment company has received international recognition for how it manages financial risks and regulatory requirements as it expands into digital payments. M2T, a subsidiary of Banque Centrale Populaire (BCP) Group, won the “Best Compliance Team” award at the Excellence in Compliance Awards, held in Dubai on 3 September 2026.
The company was shortlisted alongside JHI and South Africa’s Nedbank. The awards were organised by the Middle East & Africa Compliance Association (MEACA), in partnership with NielsonSmith.
The jury, made up of professionals from the banking, finance and payments sectors, recognised M2T’s compliance team for its work on internal controls, ethics, governance and risk management.
The award comes as M2T expands beyond its traditional money transfer and bill payment services into electronic payments for businesses.
M2T became an electronic payment acquirer on 1 May 2025, after receiving approval from Bank Al-Maghrib, Morocco’s central bank. It launched its Chaabi Payment service to offer merchants payment solutions across different channels.
The move followed the opening of Morocco’s electronic payment market to new competitors in July 2025. For payment companies, the shift means handling more complex transactions and facing greater demands in areas such as fraud prevention, anti-money laundering and financial security.
M2T’s latest award follows another recognition for its digital payment business. In February 2026, Chaabi Payment won the “Best Innovative Payment Solution” award at the 20th Africa Pay & ID Expo in Marrakech.
The company operates more than 7,000 outlets across the country. Its services include Chaabi Cash for money transfers, Tasshilat for everyday payments and Chaabi Pay for mobile money.
M2T says its business builds on 25 years of experience in financial inclusion and digitalisation.
