Morocco, under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, is playing a crucial role in strengthening South-South cooperation, particularly in the realm of vaccine sovereignty. This assertion was made by Khalid Ait Taleb, the Minister of Health and Social Protection, during the plenary session of the 77th World Health Assembly of the WHO in Geneva on Tuesday.
In his address, Ait Taleb highlighted Morocco’s ongoing efforts to finalize the construction of a vaccine manufacturing plant. This strategic project aims to ensure vaccine sovereignty not only for Morocco but for the entire African continent. “The recent health crises we’ve faced in a challenging and complex international context, characterized by numerous geostrategic shifts, compel us to reemphasize the importance of eliminating risks stemming from these crises,” he stated. He also stressed the need for significant and effective investment to develop and strengthen both national and continental health sovereignty.
Recognizing the importance of promoting public health across Africa, Ait Taleb announced that Morocco will host the fourth International Conference on Public Health in Africa this coming November. He noted that this event will serve as a vital platform for exchanging experiences and perspectives on strategic issues facing African health systems.
