Soufiane El Bakkali has brought home a gold medal for Morocco, triumphing in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Paris 2024 Olympics. The victory was clinched at the Stade de France on Wednesday, August 7, where El Bakkali once again showcased his dominance in this event.
Clocking in at 8:06.05, El Bakkali outpaced American Kenneth Rooks and Kenyan Abraham Kibiwot, securing his third world title. His compatriot, Mohamed Tindouft, finished in 12th place with a time of 8:14.82.
This remarkable achievement echoes the legendary performances of Hicham El Guerrouj, who won gold in both the 1,500 meters and 5,000 meters at the Athens 2004 Olympics.
El Bakkali’s victory at the Paris Olympics follows his 2021 triumph in Budapest, where he was crowned world champion in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, defeating world record holder Lamecha Girma of Ethiopia.
