The National Railway Office (ONCF) has recently issued a tender for the construction of a new railway line connecting Selouane to the upcoming Nador West Med port, with the project expected to be completed by the end of 2024. This ambitious endeavor, estimated at 99 million dirhams, involves the construction of a single-track railway stretching 52 kilometers, designed to support speeds of up to 160 km/h.

In addition to the main railway line, the project also includes the construction of three road bridges with corresponding access routes, two rail bridges, a marshalling yard at the Nador West Med port, and the necessary terminal facilities. This new railway infrastructure aims to streamline the transportation of goods to and from the port, thereby contributing to the economic development of the region.

Nador West Med port, set for full operational capacity by 2027, is anticipated to become a key player in international trade. The port will feature a container terminal with an annual capacity of 3.4 million TEUs, a petroleum terminal capable of handling 25 million tons per year, a coal terminal with a capacity of 7 million tons, and facilities for handling 3 million tons of miscellaneous goods. The Selouane-Nador West Med railway line will enhance the efficiency of these port facilities by providing a seamless connection to the national railway network.
