CaixaBank, Spain’s largest bank, has reaffirmed its long-term commitment to Morocco during a visit by its CEO, Gonzalo Gortázar. Present in Morocco for 15 years, the bank aims to double its business with Spanish corporate clients in the country, targeting an increase in turnover from €250 million to €500 million within the next two years.
Since entering the Moroccan market in 2009, CaixaBank has opened branches in Casablanca, Tangier, and Agadir, becoming a vital partner for Spanish and multinational companies operating in the region. Currently, around 60% of the 800 Spanish companies present in Morocco are CaixaBank clients.
During his visit, Gortázar praised Morocco’s economic reforms and political stability, calling them significant advantages for attracting foreign investment. He highlighted the country’s strong growth prospects, making it a valuable partner for Spanish companies looking to expand internationally.
Gortázar also mentioned the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which Morocco will co-host with Spain and Portugal, as a potential catalyst for future investments in the region.
CaixaBank is keen to seize opportunities in several key sectors in Morocco, including renewable energy, water resource management, infrastructure, sustainable agriculture, and tourism. The bank also plans to get involved in projects linked to the 2030 World Cup, an event expected to drive substantial investment into the country.
