As a committed advocate for social and digital inclusion in Morocco, Orange Maroc, through its foundation, continues to make remarkable strides with its pioneering “Orange Village” initiative in Anamrou, a village in the Al Haouz region. In partnership with the Essalam Foundation, this initiative aims to transform the lives of the village’s 600 residents, focusing particularly on empowering women and youth.

Significant progress has been made, particularly in the renovation of vital infrastructure such as the primary school and the electrification of the village. Alongside these developments, support programs are being introduced to encourage local economic growth, including the creation of income-generating activities for the community.

“We are extremely proud to see the early success of our commitment in Anamrou. This project brings to life our ambition to contribute positively and sustainably to Morocco’s development. By investing in essential infrastructure, we aim to greatly improve the quality of life for residents and foster long-term economic growth,” said Hendrik Kasteel, CEO of Orange Maroc. He also applauded the dedication of Khatwat Khir volunteers, who have played a crucial role in realizing Orange Maroc’s vision of inclusive development.

The “Orange Village” initiative in Anamrou encompasses several key areas. Infrastructure improvements include the installation of a sewage system, road grading, photovoltaic street lighting, and extended network coverage. As part of the educational infrastructure enhancements, the project will rebuild the local school, construct a library, upgrade the schoolyard, and provide housing for teachers. To ensure the well-being of children and youth, recreational spaces and sports fields will also be developed.

Moreover, the initiative is focused on empowering women and young people through skills development and income-generating activities. Three main ventures have been identified: a nursery for producing aromatic plants and fruit trees, a cheese production facility, and the improvement and promotion of beekeeping, as the region is renowned for its honey production.

In addition to infrastructural development, the project has rallied numerous volunteers from Orange Maroc, fostering a sense of shared purpose and commitment. Through the “Orange Engage for Change” platform, teams have actively contributed to this joint effort. Volunteers from Khatwat Khir have also distributed donations, organized reforestation initiatives, and participated in cleaning and de-polluting the valley around the village.

Orange Maroc’s foundation, through Khatwat Khir and the “Orange Village” initiative, reaffirms its commitment to digital inclusion and sustainable development, with plans to replicate this success in other regions.
