The National Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines (ONHYM) and the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) have signed a contract for the transport of natural gas through the Maghreb-Europe Gas Pipeline (GME), which supplies gas to ONEE’s power stations.

This agreement formalizes a longstanding partnership between the two entities, which led to the commercial launch of the “Reverse Flow” system in June 2022. This system allows Morocco to import liquefied natural gas (LNG) from international markets, re-gasify it at Spanish terminals, and then transport it to Morocco via the GME, according to ONHYM’s statement.

During the signing, ONHYM’s Director General, Amina Benkhadra, and ONEE’s Director General, Tarik Hamane, expressed their satisfaction with the continuous coordination between their teams and the quality of service provided by ONHYM’s subsidiary, OMCo.
