Operational since September 2024, the newly inaugurated Sidi Bennour refinery has an annual production capacity of 500,000 tons of white sugar. Designed and built entirely by COSUMAR’s in-house teams, this state-of-the-art facility elevates the group’s total production capacity to 2.5 million tons per year. The refinery not only exemplifies COSUMAR’s industrial excellence but also strengthens Morocco’s food sovereignty while stimulating local economic growth.

Over the first nine months of 2024, COSUMAR continued to solidify its pivotal role in Morocco’s sugar industry with significant progress in both industrial and agricultural operations. The group reported a consolidated revenue of 7.749 billion dirhams by the end of September, reflecting a modest 1.2% increase compared to the same period in 2023. This growth was driven by higher sugar sales on the domestic market and in exports.

Despite challenges posed by water scarcity, the 2024 harvest campaign proceeded under satisfactory conditions. Effective collaboration between agricultural partners and support teams mitigated the adverse effects of the climate. The campaign produced 191,000 tons of white sugar, slightly down from the 224,000 tons achieved in the previous harvest.

Preparations for the 2024/25 planting season have started on a positive note, with an ambitious plan to double the land area dedicated to sugar beet cultivation. COSUMAR remains committed to sustainable water use and providing farmers with guidance to optimize resource management.

By the end of September 2024, the group’s investments totaled 135 million dirhams, primarily allocated to modernizing and maintaining industrial tools. Meanwhile, net debt rose to 1.823 billion dirhams, up from 1.458 billion at the end of December 2023, reflecting COSUMAR’s focus on expanding capacity and driving innovation.

With its expanded production capabilities and steadfast dedication to sustainability, COSUMAR continues to play a key role in bolstering Morocco’s sugar supply and advancing the agricultural sector.
