The Martínez Otero Group, a leading Spanish player in high-end carpentry and furniture, is taking a significant leap forward in its global expansion. The company has announced the opening of its first-ever international production facility, scheduled for February 2024, in the Benslimane region near Casablanca, Morocco. This marks a turning point for the Galician-based company as it ventures beyond its home market for the first time.
Having firmly established itself in Spain with projects spanning major cities, Martínez Otero is setting its sights on the African continent and the EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa) region. Morocco was strategically chosen for its proximity to key Mediterranean and Middle Eastern markets. The Benslimane location offers a gateway to these regions, positioning the company to better serve emerging markets and new clientele.
The 4,500-square-meter factory is designed to handle the complete production cycle of interior carpentry and premium furniture. According to the company, the facility will generate over 60 jobs and incorporate auxiliary materials such as metal structures, glass, stone, and upholstery. By centralizing these components, Martínez Otero aims to enhance its comprehensive offering for luxury hotel and retail projects.
Alejandro Valladares, President of Martínez Otero, emphasized the strategic importance of this new venture. “This factory represents a €2.2 million investment in infrastructure and equipment, reinforcing our internationalization process,” he said.
The company is no stranger to global success. “Currently, 70% of our revenue comes from projects outside Spain, with key markets in Europe, the Middle East, the UK, the US, and Africa,” Valladares noted. He added that Morocco has played a crucial role in the company’s growth, contributing nearly 12% of its global revenue over the past four years.
With an annual turnover of €80 million, Martínez Otero is recognized as one of Europe’s top providers of high-end carpentry and furniture. Its portfolio spans a diverse range of sectors, including hospitality, retail, and residential projects. By setting up a facility in Benslimane, the company aims to strengthen its presence in Africa, offer localized solutions to its clients, and increase its competitiveness in emerging markets.
This latest development underscores Morocco’s growing appeal as a destination for strategic foreign investments. The arrival of Martínez Otero is expected to inject vitality into the local economy by creating jobs and enhancing the industrial fabric of the region. Additionally, it solidifies Morocco’s position as a production and distribution hub for African and global markets.
The inauguration of the Benslimane factory in February 2024 represents a critical milestone for Martínez Otero as it seeks to solidify its role as a leader in high-end furniture and carpentry. This expansion not only highlights the company’s ambitions to dominate the premium furnishings sector on a global scale but also reflects its commitment to innovation and excellence.
