The healthcare landscape in Laayoune is undergoing a major shift, as one of Morocco’s largest private medical groups, AKDITAL, announces a key expansion. The group has officially acquired two medical facilities in the capital of the Moroccan Sahara: Al Hikma Medical Center and the International Polyclinic of Laayoune. This strategic move, approved by the Competition Council, marks a significant step in strengthening the region’s healthcare infrastructure.
By adding these two facilities to its network, AKDITAL now operates in eleven regions across Morocco, reinforcing its goal of achieving nationwide coverage. Al Hikma Medical Center, which is already in service, offers 76 beds and a wide range of care, including consultations, laboratory testing, imaging, and surgery—all delivered under high-quality standards.
The International Polyclinic of Laayoune, a state-of-the-art facility with 240 beds, is set to open to the public on May 2. Designed to operate around the clock, the polyclinic will offer advanced medical services across several specialties, including cardiology, oncology, neurosurgery, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, and sports medicine. Its goal is to become the go-to medical center for the entire southern region.
This expansion aligns with broader national efforts to reform Morocco’s healthcare system, especially the rollout of universal mandatory health insurance. By establishing a presence in Laayoune, AKDITAL isn’t simply growing its footprint—it’s responding to the urgent need for specialized care in parts of the country that have long been underserved.
The move is part of AKDITAL’s ongoing growth strategy, which has seen the group scale up operations across the Kingdom. With 36 medical facilities in 21 cities and more than 4,000 beds, the group now employs over 7,500 professionals. Since its listing on the Casablanca Stock Exchange in December 2022 under the ticker AKT, AKDITAL has cemented its reputation for financial stability and transparency, further solidifying its leadership in Morocco’s private healthcare sector.
