Fueled by a record-breaking 2024, Morocco’s National Airports Authority is stepping boldly into a new chapter. Meeting this Wednesday at Casablanca’s Mohammed V Airport under the leadership of Transport and Logistics Minister Abdessamad Kayouh, the board of directors officially greenlit a bold new strategy: “Airports 2030.” The roadmap lays out a sweeping transformation plan aimed at aligning Morocco’s airport infrastructure with the world’s highest standards.

The numbers tell part of the story. The ONDA closed 2024 with a revenue of over 5.4 billion dirhams, up 14% from the previous year. Operating profit surged by 34%, reaching 1.9 billion dirhams. This financial leap was driven by an unprecedented surge in passenger traffic, with 32.7 million travelers passing through Moroccan airports—a 21% jump compared to 2023.

This boom was powered in part by the addition of around 20 new international routes, especially to European destinations, and by a stronger domestic network. But beyond the statistics, what’s taking shape is a full-scale transformation of the country’s aviation landscape.

Rather than simply reacting to growth, ONDA is proactively building for the future. One of the most ambitious projects underway is the construction of a cutting-edge terminal at Casablanca’s Mohammed V Airport, set to handle up to 20 million passengers annually by 2029. In Rabat, a brand-new terminal boasting the latest technology is slated to open before the end of this year, adding capacity for an additional 4 million travelers.

Major investments are also being funneled into airports in Tétouan, Nador, Laâyoune, Al Hoceima, as well as in key tourism hubs like Marrakech, Tangier, Agadir, and Fez. The goal is to transform every airport in the country into a modern, efficient gateway worthy of Morocco’s growing global profile.

Looking ahead to 2025, expectations remain high. Passenger numbers are forecasted to climb another 15%, reaching 37.6 million. Capital expenditures are set to soar to 13.2 billion dirhams, with a substantial portion earmarked for airport upgrades in the cities selected to host matches during the 2030 FIFA World Cup—an initiative of national importance.

The “Airports 2030” strategy will now begin large-scale implementation, focusing on three main pillars: accelerating major infrastructure projects, enhancing the traveler experience, and supporting Morocco’s broader economic development.

Board members praised ONDA’s workforce for their dedication and reaffirmed their full backing of the strategic vision. Before concluding the session, they issued a statement of loyalty and commitment to King Mohammed VI.

As Morocco prepares to welcome the world, its airports are being reimagined as sleek, forward-facing symbols of a nation on the rise. And at the heart of that transformation stands ONDA, determined to deliver a world-class gateway to the Kingdom.
