Moroccan striker Ayoub El Kaabi of Olympiakos has been honored as the UEFA Europa Conference League’s best player for the 2023-2024 season. El Kaabi was instrumental in leading his Greek club to victory, scoring the decisive goal in the competition’s final.
“At 30 years old, El Kaabi had a stellar campaign after his team transitioned from the Europa League following the group stage, netting 11 goals, including the match-winner in the final,” stated UEFA in an official release. “He is the first player to score 11 goals in the knockout phase of a major UEFA men’s club competition,” the statement added.
Reflecting on his achievement, El Kaabi said, “When I received the offer from Olympiakos, I saw it as a personal challenge. Olympiakos is a prestigious club, always in contention for national titles and competing in Europe. I dreamed of playing in a European competition.”
Previously a key player for Wydad Casablanca, El Kaabi was also named in the UEFA Europa Conference League Team of the Season, joining players from finalist Fiorentina, Aston Villa, and Club Brugge.
The Atlas Lion was voted Man of the Match in the final after his crucial goal in the 116th minute on Wednesday night in Athens.
