Just months after announcing plans to build a cathode factory in Tanger, Chinese conglomerate BTR, a global leader in electric vehicle battery components, is set to make another significant investment in Morocco. This time, the company is planning to construct an anode factory, also located in the Mohammed VI Tanger Tech City.

According to Chinese media reports, BTR, through its subsidiary Betrui Mediterranean Anode New Material Technology Co, intends to establish this second factory in Tanger. The project represents a substantial investment of 2.6 billion yuan (approximately 3.6 billion dirhams).

The new facility will have an annual production capacity of 60,000 tons of anode materials. Construction is expected to take about two years, with the entire project requiring an investment of around 3.6 billion dirhams.

Ford Motor Company is anticipated to be the first major client of this new factory, with a supply agreement in place that includes a prepayment of $120 million.

BTR has justified this investment as a strategic move to meet the growing market demand and expand its international market share. The decision to invest in Morocco underscores the country’s attractiveness to investors, particularly in the rapidly evolving automotive sector as it shifts toward electric vehicles.

This investment further strengthens Morocco’s position as a key hub for the electric vehicle battery industry and as a crucial player in the production of essential components for the future of the automotive sector.
