Ferry services between Tarifa and Tangier have been suspended once again due to worsening weather conditions caused by Storm Martinho. High winds sweeping across the Strait of Gibraltar forced authorities to halt operations on Friday morning, according to officials from the Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras.

All scheduled crossings between the Spanish port of Tarifa and Morocco’s Tangier Ville have been canceled through at least 2:00 p.m., with only the 8:00 p.m. ferry still tentatively on the schedule. However, whether that final departure takes place will depend entirely on how the weather unfolds later in the day.

This latest disruption adds to a string of cancellations and delays that have plagued maritime traffic in the region over the past several days, as storm after storm continues to batter the area. Rough seas and powerful gusts have made ferry crossings increasingly unsafe, forcing repeated suspensions of service.

Despite the turmoil affecting the Tarifa-Tangier route, ferries between Algeciras and Tangier Med remain in operation. Port officials say those crossings are proceeding normally for now, providing an alternative for travelers willing to adjust their plans.

Storm Martinho is continuing to hammer parts of southern Spain, with especially strong winds hitting the Cádiz coastline. Authorities have issued a yellow alert in the area, warning of gusts reaching up to 61 km/h and dangerous swells offshore.

Strangely, no weather warnings have been issued for the Strait itself at this time, according to Spain’s national meteorological agency, AEMET. Even so, maritime authorities have deemed sea conditions too hazardous to ensure safe passage, prompting the renewed suspension.

Service is expected to resume once the weather stabilizes, but until then, officials are urging passengers to stay cautious and check for updates before making travel plans.
