A new chapter is beginning for Tanger Med Port Authority (TPMA). Following a board meeting held on Thursday, February 27, Idriss Aarabi has been appointed as the new director general of the strategically important port in northern Morocco.
A native of Tangier, Aarabi is no stranger to TPMA. He first joined the organization in 2007 as operations manager for the passenger and freight port, steadily rising through the ranks over the years. His deep expertise in maritime operations and thorough understanding of the sector make him a natural choice to lead Tanger Med, one of the largest port hubs in Africa and the Mediterranean.
He takes over from Hassan Abkari, whose departure follows reports in the Spanish press about the creation of a port-related company in Valencia, Spain, in January 2025. The situation prompted a restructuring within TPMA, ultimately leading to Aarabi’s appointment.
